Washington, DC 20020

Fighting in the open on behalf of people living with this largely closeted issue also opens up conversation about more mental health, across the spectrum.
The American Psychiatric Association in 2013 defined "Hoarding Disorder" (DSM-5)." Terms like "HD," "Collecting Behaviors," or "Finders Keepers," carry less stigmatizing, so make it easier for people to talk about what the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments in 2006 called, "Hoarding: A Dangerous Secret."
"Chronic disorganization," for people who live with significant clutter, may put their physical, financial and mental health at risk and strain personal relationships.
Ongoing advocacy rallies to get support services for residents. Training is available, and care providers and peers with lived experience in the District deserve to receive the available training and get help to address this potentially serious health issue. This community round table discussion starts opening up this important conversation.
The presenter returns from recently attending the 18th Annual Conference on Hoarding and Cluttering in San Fransisco, where she presented the Opening Keynote, "DisordR, The Play," the original, solo show, performed live on stage, and in July, 2018, attended the 6th Annual Hoarding Meeting (part of the International OCD Foundation's 25th Annual Conference) and the Pre-Conference Hoarding trainings.

Framing Positive & Recovery based Language
Following is the "old" language used to describe the show:
- "DisordR, The Play," humorously and humanely brings Pakrat Patty the Hoarder's Collector-itis and Disposophobia out of the Clutter Closet.
- An obsessive-compulsive's must-see!
- "DisordR, The Play," about Pakrat Patty, the self-identified Hoarder, uses humor to
- Raise Awareness,
- Educate about Mental Health,
- Stop Stigma,
- Advocate & Empower for Recovery!
